This bottom has a concave flapper, which moves into a recess in the body of the bottom as debris moves in to load the chamber upon the upward stroke of the plunger assembly. This feature assures maximum opening, and permits loading of exceptionally large pieces of sand, shale, etc. To remove trapped material from tube when using this bottom, turn set screw supporting flapper to left until flapper swings downward on the hinge. When it is necessary to "hitch on" to break up hard bridges, etc., this bottom is recommended.
