The flat bottom commonly called the "muleshoe" has a double action flapper valve, as in the No. 19 Chisel bottom. Approximately one-third of the contact surface has been removed to permit passage of flapper when preparing to unload the Bailer. To dump Bailer when this bottom is being used, loosen dog point set screw supporting the flapper until the flapper valve swings down and out of the path of debris being removed from the load chamber. To reset, lift free edge of flapper, turn supporting screw to the right until it protrudes inwardly a sufficient distance to again act as a support for the flapper.
